Educational Opportunities Program Records, 1968-2013

Series 1 contains textual documents related to the administration of the EOP. This includes documents about the establishment of classes, general correspondence, information on employment in the office, Faculty Senate reports, fiscal reports, meeting minutes of staff and counselors, and general information on the program as a whole.

Series 2 contains information and resources for admissions and recruitment into the program. This includes application fee waivers, correspondence on admission, course placement tests, procedural information on admissions, as well as brochures and recruitment display materials. There is also a collection of student resources on gaining access to higher education.

Series 3 contains documents on the committees and workshops that were part of the program. Along with the Multicultural Workshops for EOP staff and campus police, there were multiple committee boards advising and overseeing the program. Two main committees are represented: The Board of Visitors of Minority Affairs and The Students of Color Recruitment and Retention Committee (SOCRRC). The Board of Visitors of Minority Affairs was established in 1986 and is made up of members of minority communities that advise on the recruitment and support of students in minority groups.

Series 4 contains documents relating to scholarships provided through the EOP, resources for finding other scholarships and financial aid opportunities, and any correspondence related to financial aid and scholarships specifically. One of the more represented scholarships was the Underrepresented Minorities Achievement Scholarship (UMAS) which also includes documents of a review process.

Series 5 contains EOP publications including the monthly newsletters and annual program reports.

Series 6 contains any resources produced outside of EOP that were used to inform the program staff and students. There is information about cultural centers and resources on campus, graduate educational opportunities, study abroad opportunities, and published articles and statistics on the state of minority groups in higher education.

Series 7 is a collection of photo albums and scrapbooks curated within the EOP. Most of the photographs within the scrapbooks are represented in at least the negatives in Series 8: Photographic Materials. The scrapbooks, however, are a combination of photos and newspaper clippings related to EOP - The Daily Barometer and The Oregonian are the main source of these articles. They feature news on EOP and diversity on campus as well as student profiles and activities EOP students participate in. There is also consistent articles surrounding the activities of the Black Student Union (BSU) and Black Cultural Center (BCC) that is integral to the start of EOP.

Series 8 is a collection of photographic materials that document the EOP and related events. The images are arranged chronologically first by academic year then by folder year. The folders of the same year are then arranged alphabetically by folder title. This set of materials shows the yearly celebration of Honor Roll Achievement, Graduation, the New Student Retreat, and Scholarship Grants as well as the daily activities “around EOP” each year. Additionally, there is consistent representation of Vietnamese New Year Celebrations.

In the 2010s, longtime EOP staff member Sheila Roberts organized and described the bulk of the photographic materials; the information she provided was retained and used to create this series.

In the 2000s and 2010s, digital photographs are incorporated. Along with each set of photographs is a spreadsheet that includes Roberts' notes on individual files.
