Historical Note
Robert M. Stanley began his aviation career in 1937. During his career, he was a test pilot and vice president of engineering for the Bell Aircraft Corporation and was the first to fly a jet airplane in the United States. He invented the Yankee escape system and was one of the nation’s foremost soaring pilots. In 1948, he founded Stanley Aviation.
