Historical Note

William “Bill” Thomas Finnerty was a custodian at the University of Wyoming, Wyoming Hall, an Army veteran, and a devoted Wyoming Cowboys and Cowgirls fan. He was born on June 9, 1943 to parents Joseph and Catherine Finnerty and attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Cheyenne, graduating in 1961. In 1967 he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War where he served in Hawaii. Finnerty returned to Laramie after his military service. He worked as a bartender for many years at the Fireside and Crown Liquors. He retired from bartending and became a custodian at the University of Wyoming, Wyoming Hall until his retirement in 2016. Finnerty was an active member of St. Laurence O'Toole Catholic Church and St. Paul’s Newman Center in Laramie. He passed away on March 19, 2021.

Content Description

This collection contains Finnerty’s personal papers including Army records from his Vietnam service, trips to Ireland and various US states, and photographs. Also included are University of Wyoming records and memorabilia from his time as a student and custodian. The collection also contains memorabilia for Cowboy Football and Cowboy and Cowgirls Basketball including rosters, game programs, and scorecards.
