Historical Note
Robert G. Raabe (1925–2013) was an American geologist and Marine Corps veteran. Born in March 1925 in Chicago, Illinois, he served in the South Pacific during World War II before pursuing a bachelor's degree in geology at the University of New Mexico, where he also played football. Following his service in the Korean War, he earned a master's degree in geology from the University of Arizona. Raabe worked for various organizations in the United States and internationally, ultimately concluding his career as a geological consultant. Alongside his civilian career, he remained active in the Marine Corps Reserves, retiring as a Colonel after 31 years of service. He passed away in Colorado in January 2013 at the age of 87.
