Biographical Note

LaMar Harrington was born in 1917. She joined the staff of the Henry Art Gallery at the University of Washington in 1956 and became Associate Director before her position was terminated in 1975. She worked from 1975 to 1978 in the Libraries' University Archives and Manuscripts Division on the Archives of Northwest Art, which she began at the Henry Art Gallery.

Harrington turned to freelance curatorial consulting in the arts from 1977 to 1985. During this time, she authored A History of Ceramics in the Pacific Northwest, one of the definitive works on the subject. She later served as director and chief curator of the Bellevue Art Museum from 1986 to 1990. Harrington also served as a trustee of the Pilchuck School from 1981 to 1988. She served as curator for the arts at University House, where she was a resident until June 2003. LaMar Harrington died on March 23, 2005 in Port Townsend, Washington.
