Esther John papers, 1975-1987

Esther John, also know as “Little Dove” (b. 1952- ), is a peace activist and flautist. Her activism is directed to “promote the welfare of the common people and of the planet as a whole.” As her effort to promote peace, she did two peace walks: (1) From Seattle to United Nations Headquarters (June 1 - December 7, 1983) by herself. (2) From Leningrad to Moscow (June 15 - July 9, 1987) with a group of 200 people. John is the founder of the Peace Academy, which first was part of the East Madison YMCA Community School in 1984 and later moved to Madrona Community Center in 1985. She served as coordinator of the East Madison YMCA Community School and Peace Academy until November 1984 and as instructor of the course “Toward a Community of Peace.”
