Historical Note

Norman Hudis (1923–2016) was a British screenwriter and author, best known for writing the first six films in the Carry On series. Born in London, he began his career as a journalist for the Hampstead & Highgate Express before serving in the British Royal Air Force during World War II, where he wrote for Air Force News in the Middle East. After the war, he pursued playwriting with limited success before transitioning to screenwriting. He gained recognition in the 1950s for writing B movies and was later hired by producer Peter Rogers to script Rock Around the World (1957). His success with this film led to further collaborations, including Carry On Sergeant (1958), which launched the long-running Carry On franchise. In the 1970s, Hudis moved to the United States, where he contributed scripts to television series such as The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Marcus Welby, M.D., Hawaii Five-O, and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century.
