Historical Note

Bill Bowers was an American actor and mime artist based in New York. He was born on April 16, 1959 and raised in Missoula, Montana. Bowers received his undergraduate degree from Rocky Mountain College, a master’s from Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts, and an Honorary PhD from Rocky Mountain College. Bowers studied with the legendary mime, Marcel Marceau and has taught the art of physical storytelling as an instructor at the New York University Tisch School for the Arts, Stella Adler Conservatory, and William Esper Studios. As an actor, mime and educator, Bowers has performed throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia. His Broadway credits include Zazu in “The Lion King” and Leggett in “The Scarlet Pimpernel.” He also portrayed Charlie Chaplin in the world premiere of “Little Tramp,” Pierrot in the world premiere of “Beethoven N Pierrot,” and Petruchka with The Colorado Symphony. Bowers has also created original works including his autobiographical play, “It Goes Without Saying”, that opened off Broadway in 2006.
