Content Description

The papers of the Susan M. Cummings collection include correspondence, newspaper articles, legal documents, receipts, certificates, photographs, and other miscellaneous materials dating from 1839 to 1927 that are associated with Susan Cummings and the Cummings and Babb families, pioneers of Wallula, Washington. The majority of the correspondence is between Cummings and Babb family members, providing updates on personal health, home life, and significant events. The letters provide an understanding of family relationships and the different residence locations of Susan Cummings.

Additional papers consist of a Cummings family genealogy, the will of Mary Ann Babb, Quaker marriage certificates, promotional land material, obituaries, etc. The photographs included in the collection depict a home and bridge constructed by Babb family members.

Typescript transcripts are available for much of these materials. An item list and a State of Washington Historical Records Survey are included with the collection.
