Summary
The Don Gale KSL editorial video collection (1938-2010, bulk 1978-1997) consists of the complete 19-year series of daily editorials delivered by Gale at the end of the evening news on Salt Lake City television station KSL. The collection touches on myriad local and national issues affecting Utahns and highlights the state's social, political, environmental and cultural history during the latter half of the 20th century. The collection also contains various tributes to local businessman and philanthropist "Izzi" Wagner. Gale began writing editorials in 1977, went on the air in 1978, and continued broadcasting until his retirement in 1998.

Biographical Note

G. Donald Gale wrote, produced and broadcast daily editorial segments for KSL News in Salt Lake City, Utah from 1977 until his retirement in 1998. Former Vice President for News and Public Affairs at Bonneville International Corporation, Gale earned Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Master of Arts (M.A.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees from the University of Utah and served on the faculty there and at Weber State University. He is the author of the book Bags to Riches about Utah businessman and philanthropist "Izzi" Wagner. Don Gale continues to write a monthly column for the Deseret Morning News and the Ogden Standard-Examiner. He is President of Words, Words, Words, Inc., a communication consulting company.

Content Description

The Don Gale KSL editorial video collection (1938-2010) consists of the complete 19-year series of daily editorials delivered by Gale at the end of the evening news on Salt Lake City television station KSL. The collection touches on myriad local and national issues affecting Utahns and highlights the state's social, political, environmental and cultural history during the latter half of the 20th century. The collection also contains various tributes to local businessman and philanthropist "Izzi" Wagner.

All of Gale's original editorials have been digitized and are available for viewing on the DVDs detailed in this finding aid. A history and list of the editorials may also be found in Gale's book KSL Editorials 1978-1997: A Personal History, which is available with the paper collection registers in the Special Collections Reading Room. Izzi Wagner materials are available on the DVDs listed at the end of the collection.
