Michael D. "Mickey" Gallivan papers, 1961-2006

Michael Dennis "Mickey" Gallivan (b. 1945) started his career in television news in Salt Lake City and in Honolulu. He was a writer/reporter for the Associated Press, assisted in the original marketing for Snowbird resort, was director of the Utah Travel Council state tourism promotion division, and headed the state's Economic Development Department under Governor Scott Matheson. He ran the television campaign for U.S. Senator Moss in the successful 1970 re-election effort, was president of Prudential Development Company, and for ten years, was on the board of the Salt Lake Tribune Publishing Company and Kearns Tribune Corporation.

He was vice president of the Salt Lake City Olympic Bid Committee from 1988 to the successful award of the 2002 Games in 1995, overseeing communications, presentations, and community involvement. In 1998-1999, he was chairman of Worldwide Partners, the world's largest network of independent advertising agencies. He was also a former partner and now consultant to Riester, one of the largest independent advertising agencies in the West. Riester was formed in the 2001 merger of the former Harris & Love, Inc., where Gallivan was principal, president & CEO since 1993, having joined the firm in 1978. He is also a director of H2Oil Recovery Services, Inc. and subsidiary 212Resources, Inc., new environmental companies that provide on-site purification of contaminated waters produced in the drilling of deep natural gas wells.

Gallivan is on the Advisory Council of the School of Arts & Letters at the University of Notre Dame. Among his previous volunteer assignments, he has been chairman of the IHC Foundation, was a member of the National Advisory Board of the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah, he was president of Catholic Community Services and a member of the board/executive committee of the Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. He was a trustee of Rowland Hall St. Mark's School, and for many years a trustee of Hogle Zoo.

He is a 1967 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, is married to the former Sharee Jack, and they have three children.
