Historical Note

Surdam received his Ph. D. from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1967. He became a professor in the Department of Geology and Geophysics at the University of Wyoming shortly afterwards and conducted research in diagenesis and basin analysis. In 1993 he began work at the Institute for Energy Research to research fossil fuel exploration and production, an outgrowth of his diagenetic research.
