- The Loren E. Morey papers (1826-1983) contain correspondence, notes, articles, publications, notebooks, pamphlets, brochures, and news clippings related to hot air balloons and rocket systems. Loren E. Morey received a Ph.D in chemistry from Columbia University in 1944. He worked for Hercules Powder Company for twenty-five years beginning in 1950. While at Hercules, he participated in the development of several military rockets including the Nike Ajax, Little John, Terrier, and Talos.

Biographical Note
Loren E. Morey (1915-1996) received a B.S. from Monmouth College, Monmouth, Illinois, in 1938. In 1944, he received a Ph.D. in chemistry from Columbia University. Morey worked at George Washington University in the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory from 1944 to 1945. He later worked for Hercules Powder Company for twenty-five years beginning in 1950. During his employment at the Hercules Powder Company, Morey assisted in the development of many army, navy, and air force rockets, including Nike Ajax, Little John, Terrier, and Talos.
