Biographical Note
John R. Walsh, M.D. (1920-1995) was raised in San Francisco, CA, and educated in Nebraska at Creighton University School of Medicine (B.S. '43, M.D. '45). Intern, St. Joseph's Hospital ('45-'46), San Francisco; Captain, US Army Medical Corps,('46-'47); Resident,St. Joseph's Hospital, Creighton Omaha Ne.('48-'51); also studied for his M.S., Creighton('51). Teaching positions followed at Creighton U. School of Medicine ('51-'60) becoming chief of theMedical Dept.; Univ. Nebraska College of Medicine ('52-'56); also served with Veteran's Administration M.C., Omaha ('51-'56). Came to University of Oregon Medical School and the Portland VAMC where he worked at both until his death ('60-'95). Dr. Walsh is considered a pioneer in Gerontology, and helped create the Dept. of Gerontology and lead it ('79-'94), and was the brains behind the Oregon Geriatric Education Center (OGEC) and its director ('89-'94). He also "granfathered" the "Skybridge" linking OHSU with VAMC. He died on his 75th birthday.

Collection is currently in one small document box. It contains mostly Dr. Walsh's reprints, plus newsletters, newsclippings, magazines,lectures and miscellany.
