Papers document Wenk's work for the federal government and the states of Washington, California and Alaska on a variety of science policy issues. These include nuclear proliferation, Project Isaiah, telecommunications and information, and marine safety in Washington State waters.

Papers primarily relate to Edward Wenk's teaching, consulting work and writing projects during the period.

Papers primarily document Dr. Wenk's work on the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Commission, Washington State Marine Oversight Board, and Governor Mike Lowry's Transition Team. Other papers relate to his service on the Advisory Committee to the Cousteau Society, his membership in The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and his support for the creation of the Washington Office of Science and Technology.

A significant portion of this accession consists of materials relating to U.S. Vice President Hubert Humphrey's visit to Europe in March 1967. Wenk was an official member of the Vice President's traveling party.

Scope and Content: Awards and honors, manuscript, audiocassette; 1937-2003 Includes Wenk's academic degrees from Johns Hopkins University and Harvard University and awards in honor of Wenk's service on three presidential staffs and contributions to the fields of policy study and engineering. Also includes Wenk's unpublished memoirs discussing his life work in engineering and policty planning and an audiocassette of a lecture

Also includes 35mm slides of Wenk's work on the submarine, Aluminaut, and numerious awards and pieces of ephemera issued by a various organizations in recognition of his contributions to the fields of engineering and policy studies
