Historical Note

The College of Social and Behavioral Science, along with the Colleges of Humanities and Science, were created when the existing College of Letters and Science was reorganized in 1970. Initially, the new college included the departments of Aerospace Studies, Anthropology, Economics, Geography, Military Science, Naval Science, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology as well as the following research & teaching institutes: the American West Center, Center for Historical Research, Center for Public Administration and Affairs, Hinckley Institute, Institute of Government, and the Middle East Center.

During the period covered by this collection, the College of Social and Behavioral Science underwent some major changes. First, during the academic year of 1974-1975, the department of Home Economics was moved from the College of Education and brought into the College of Social and Behavioral Science as the Department of Family and Consumer Studies. This period also saw the advent of the Women's Studies Program at the University of Utah.
