Historical Note
John Rolfe Burroughs (1902-1987) was an American author known for his focus on Northwestern Colorado and Wyoming history. John was born in Denver, Colorado but he lived in Steamboat Springs, Colorado for most of his life. Burroughs was awarded the Cowboy Hall of Fame’s Western Heritage award twice for his books Where the Old West Stayed Young and Guardian of the Grasslands. Both books discuss the cattle business in Northwestern Colorado and Wyoming. He passed away in Steamboat Springs in November of 1987.
