Historical Note

Ludwig & Svenson Studio was a family owned photography studio in Laramie, Wyoming during the twentieth century. Originally named Svenson Photography, the studio was established by Henning Svenson in 1905. In 1943, Svenson Photography was purchased by Walter B. Ludwig, who renamed it Ludwig & Svenson Studio. The business was later renamed Ludwig Photography. The company mainly served a local clientele and was also known for its photographs of Laramie and its scenic photographs of Wyoming.

Content Description

This collection contains a very large number of images (negatives, interpositives, and prints) of Laramie, Wyoming residents, Laramie public school students, and University of Wyoming groups, students, and other affiliates. Collection also contains photographs of Laramie architecture including the University of Wyoming, businesses, and houses. Collection also holds images of Wyoming scenes including Sand Creek and King Brothers Ranch, images of organizations and groups within Laramie, and events in Laramie and at the University of Wyoming.

This collection was acquired from Walter Ludwig in November 1950; Anne Brande from 1996-2014, and Friends of the Albany County Public Library in October 2023.

Processing Note

Collection was processed by Laura Uglean Jackson in March 2014 and updated by Jamie J. Greene in November 2025.

This collection contains nitrate negatives [NN], acetate negatives[AN], and glass plate negatives[GP]. Many nitrate and glass plate negatives have been scanned and given a corresponding interpositive [IP]. There is also a small set of prints.
