Content Description

The Midwifery publications collection consists of journals and newsletters (Association of Radical Midwives newsletter, Midwifery News, and the New Zealand College of Midwives Journal) dating from 1983 to 2003. Historical Note

The Association of Radical Midwives (ARM) was formed in 1976 by a small group of student midwives from different training schools who were alarmed by the apparent trend towards maternity nurse status in their training. The acronym 'ARM' is a pun on the term 'Artificial Rupture of Membranes' which was routinely (over-) used at the time.

The New Zealand College of Midwives Journal is aimed at both a national and international audience. It focuses on research about midwifery issues and women's health, within a continuity of midwifery care framework.

(Notes taken from respective journals' websites)
