Biographical Note

Author and poet, professor (1877-1974). Born in Wurtzburg, Germany, Boetzkes immigrated to the United States with her family in 1894 and settled with them in Seattle in 1898. She received both her undergraduate and masters degrees from the University of Washington, taught language courses there from 1900 to 1903 and served as assistant professor of Germanics and French from 1910 to 1919. Throughout her life, Boetzkes wrote stories, articles, poems and books. She was also an amateur artist and an inveterate world traveler, who documented her trips through writing and collecting. She invested in real estate, particularly in Seattle's University District. She died in 1974.
