Historical Note
Albert H. Wulzen was born Nov. 21, 1844 in Hanover, Germany. He came to San Francisco in 1856 to join his brothers, Hienrich (b. 1827) and Deitrich (b. 1830) and held a variety of industrial jobs. In 1871 he was listed as a photographic printer for Dames & Williams, and continued to have photographic jobs in San Francisco and Oakland until 1911. Wulzen was a printer for Carleton Watkins' Yosemite Art Gallery, 1871-73. In 1879 Wulzen created a panorama of Oakland, a companion to the Portland panorama. He established a traveling studio, the Pacific Art Gallery, in the summer of 1882.
In 1877 Albert married Mary Chilton, from Massachusetts. The couple had two children, Frank and Rosalind, and lived mostly in Oakland. Albert Wulzen died July 10, 1917. [Biographical info from Robinson and Palmquist.].
