Historical Note
George W. Bain (1901-1991) was a geologist who taught at Amherst College. After earning degrees from McGill University and Columbia University, Bain accepted a position as professor of geology at Amherst where he taught from 1926 until 1966. He also worked as a consulting geologist for the Vermont Marble Company, both the United States and Canadian geological surveys, and other mining corporations.
