Biographical Note

University of Washington professor of atmospheric sciences. John M. "Mike" Wallace was born on 28 October 1940 in New York City. He received a B.S. in 1962 from the Webb Institute of Naval Architecture, and his Ph.D. in 1966 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He began his career at the University of Washington in 1966 as an assistant professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences. He later served as chair of the department 1983-1988. He also served as director of the Joint Institute for the Study of the Atmosphere and Ocean (JISAO) 1982-1997 and 2003-2006, and as co-director of the Program on the Environment 1997-2000.
