- The Leong Family Collection consists of items used at the Noodle Grill in Spokane, Washington and a photograph of restaurant founders Joe and Kon Leong. The Noodle Grill was a popular restaurant that bordered Trent Alley from 1936-1971 before it moved to East Sprague Avenue.

Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Chou "Joe" Leong opened the Noodle Grill restaurant at 512 W. Main Avenue in 1936, after fleeing to America from his hometown of Taishan, where he was facing political persecution. At the time, immigration laws prevented his wife Ngun and son Dick from accompanying him, though they were able to join him in 1949. The family-run restaurant was best known for its Chop Suey, diverse wage earning clientele, and late hours. In 1971, the restaurant moved to a new location on the corner of Sprague and Crestline, where it ran for another 30 years, before closing its doors for good in the year 2000. Chou died in 1980 at the age of 78, followed in 1997 by Ngun, his wife, who died at the age of 89.

The Leong family collection consists of artifacts from the family's restaurant, the Noodle Grill, which operated from 1936-2000. Contents include dishes, chopsticks, advertising materials, photographs, and menus from the restaurant.
