Historical Note

Manus J. Hand grew up in Laramie, Wyoming. In 1976, at the age of twelve, Hand applied and received a grant from the Governor of the state of Wyoming and the state's commission for the celebration of the United States Bicentennial. The grant funded his travel around the United States and Canada to present the citizens of all of the towns, counties, townships, and cities named "Wyoming" with honorary citizenship in the state. During his travels Hand collected proclamations and keys to cities, was featured on the Today Show, and heard Walter Cronkite mispronounce his name on the CBS Evening News.
