Historical Note
J. Walden Westerhausen grew up in Laramie, Wyoming and was a student at the University of Wyoming prior to his transfer to the United States Naval Academy. Westerhausen graduated from the Naval Academy in 1956. That same year Westerhausen married his wife, Joan, in the Naval Academy Chapel. Joan declined a commission in the armed services after their wedding, because she would outrank her husband. The couple had two children and lived in bases across the country before settling in Mesa, Arizona in 1965.
