Historical Note
Hoyt Rodney Gale was a geologist for the U.S. Department of the Interior, General Land Office in the early 1930s. He was stationed at the Helena, Montana Field Division. Gale conducted confidential investigations for oil and mineral deposits in Colorado, Montana, and Wyoming. He was also a published economist.

This collection contains case files, correspondence, and maps from Hoyt Rodney Gale’s work with the U.S. Department of the Interior. It also contains professional correspondence about his economic publications, correspondence with friends and family, Gale’s financial records, and his stamp collection.
