Historical Note
Fort Colville was established by Hudson's Bay Company in 1825 as a fur trading post. In May 1859, because of the increased settlement in the Inland Empire, the military established a post in the same location for the protection of settlers.

Three letterbooks of the U.S. Army at Fort Colville, W.T. Letters are those sent by the post commander and pertain to the operation of the post.
