Biographical Note

Fred Milkie was born in Seattle in 1917 after his parents George and Marianna Milkie immigrated to Seattle from Lebanon in 1912. After graduating from Queen Anee High School, Fred Milkie earned a business degree from the University of Washington and then served as a Navy officer in WWII. He became interested in photography and began taking photos of Mt. Rainier and then decided to use the GI Bill to complete a degree in photography from the Art Center College in Los Angeles. He met his wife of 58 years, Louise Assad, in Los Angeles. After returning to Seattle in 1948, Fred opened his own studio, Fred Milkie Photography.
