Content Description

The collection consists of personal letters written to Sayles from his sister Ida Sayles Boggs of Mohler, ID and letters from another younger sister. Also included are intimate letters from women friends, Marie H., 1906, and Ethel Richardson, 1905-1907. At least one letter from Richardson exhibits racial attitudes towards Blacks in a particularly strong manner; many of her letters reflect the nineteenth century stereotype of a submissive and dependant woman.
