Historical Note

Barry Lynn, originally named Lynwood Carver, was born in 1913 in North Carolina. He graduated from Roxboro High School in Roxboro, North Carolina, in 1931. Between the years 1939 and 1942, he was an active participant in student theatrical and dance productions at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He served in the military during World War II from about 1943 to 1946. Lynn settled in Salt Lake City and became involved with the Virginia Tanner Dance Theater. He then directed the Arena Theatre (located at 123 Second Avenue, Salt Lake City, Utah) for seven years and the Summer Tent Theatre for three summers. These were experimental ventures in dance and drama. He also served as director of costuming for the Department of Ballet and Modern Dance beginning in the 1960s.
