Biographical Note

Born in New York City in 1945, Klein moved to Seattle with her parents when she was two years old. Educated as a psychological and medical anthropologist, Klein's professional career has combined counseling, consultant work, university teaching, and community activism. The president of Consultant Services Northwest, Inc., she became an adjunct member of the Seattle University faculty in 1994. Prior to that she taught at the University of Washington from 1974-1980 and served as chair of its Women Studies Advisory Committee for two years. She also served as executive director of the Washington State Jewish Historical Society (1991-1994).

For her doctoral dissertation, Klein examined available lesbian/gay counseling services and the lesbian/gay mental health movement nationally. She worked for a number of years at the Seattle Counseling Service. She was also a founding member of Kadima (originally known as the Jewish Liberation Alliance), and Congregation Tikvah Chadashah (the lesbian/gay Jewish congregation in Puget Sound area).
