This collection contains glass plate and nitrate negatives taken in the 1910s and 1920s and negative or positive duplicates made from original C.W. Carter, C.R. Savage, and Marsena Cannon images. The subject of these photographs is Salt Lake City, Utah (1850-1890; 1920) and scenes from Southern Utah including natural bridges and Anasazi ruins.

Content Description

This collection contains glass plate and nitrate negatives taken in the 1910s and 1920s and negative or positive duplicates made from original C.W. Carter, C.R. Savage, and Marsena Cannon images. These duplicates were made from original images of Salt Lake City in the 1860s and 1870s housed in the LDS church archives. William H. Hopkins was a Salt Lake City dentist and avid amateur photographer. Hopkins photographed a variety of scenes from Southern Utah including natural bridges and Anasazi ruins. Around 1920 he also took several shots of Salt Lake City. Hopkins initially became interested in photographing Southern Utah while doing dental work for Navajo Indians.
