Historical Note
Jerry S. Dixon was born in 1948. He attended Skyline High School, and the University of Utah, where he was a member of the downhill ski team and Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. An avid participant in outdoor sports, including kayaking, hiking, and skiing, Dixon wrote several books and articles about his adventures. Dixon was an environmental and educational activist. He endowed a lecture series in philosophy at the University of Utah and received many grants for environmental education in Alaska. The Jerry S. Dixon Award for Excellence in Environmental Education is awarded to people involved in education in Alaska who demonstate a dedication to wilderness conservation. Jerry S. Dixon died on September 9, 2010.
Content Description
The Jerry S. Dixon photograph collection consists of 20 items organized into two folders. The first is primarily family and a funeral of Hans Schmid. The second folder was transferred at a later date and is only of photos taken in 1995. Some of the photographs have extensive messages written on the backs.
