Historical Note
John Eric Wicks, a native of Finland who came the the United States in 1899, was the principal architect of Astoria, Oregon, in the early 20th century. He designed many of the town's public buildings and homes. His daughter, Ebba Wicks Brown, was one of the first women to receive an architect's license in the state. She and her husband, Ernest Brown, ran an architectural firm in Astoria.
