Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Frank G. Moore was born in Geneva, New York, on October 5, 1856. He attended Geneva public schools and the Geneva Academy, a private school, before entering Hobert College, also in Geneva. In 1873, the Moore family moved to an 800-acre stock farm near Iowa City, Iowa. Moore attended the Teacher's Training Institute at Iowa and taught in Iowa district schools.
Moore held a position at a U.S. government arsenal in Rock Island, Illinois, where he manufactured precision gun parts. Around age fifty, he began his schooling in chiropractics. He was an acquaintance of Dr. D.D. Palmer, the founder of chiropractics, and he graduated with the first class at the old Davenport College of Chiropractic, Davenport, Iowa, on December 21, 1911. Moore came to Missoula, Montana, in 1911. He had a practice in the Hammond Building in downtown Missoula until it was destroyed by fire in October of 1932. He practiced at a chiropractic clinic on Pattee Street until his death. He was both a founding member of the State Board of Chiropractic Examiners and the second president of the association. He was notably the only chiropractor in Montana who was declared "not guilty" in an early case osteopaths brought against the state's chiropractors. Moore was also the first chiropractor in Montana to receive the honorary degree of "Fellow" from the American College of Chiropractors.
Moore married Martha J. DeCamp of Iowa City, Iowa. They had three children: Harry E., Charles D., and Lillian B. Van Patten. Moore was a member of the First Methodist Church and the Loyal Order of the Moose. He died of cancer on September 30, 1933, in Missoula, Montana.

Series I: Clippings , 1913-1987Return to Top
The series contains clippings, newspaper articles, obituaries, and biographies related to the Moore family. The newspaper clippings are from the Missoulian and other periodicals in which Moore family members are mentioned. There are also photocopies of photographs and documents significant to family history, including Lillian Van Patten Moore's Daughters of the American Revolution Certificate. There are also biographies written by Moore family members, including a biography Gloria Whitesitt wrote about her grandfather, Frank G. Moore, in addition to a letter containing her own reminiscence about her youth in Missoula with her grandparents, in which she describes the photographs in the collection. The clippings in the series are largely undated, but arranged chronologically wherever possible. Whitesitt's notes appear on the back of many of these clippings indicating her relationship to the party involved.
