Biographical Note
Guy Halferty was born in 1882. Halferty followed his father into the clam and salmon canning business and founded G.P. Halferty & Company. He served as president of the Fisheries Educational Association, an organization created in 1933 to counter the efforts of Washington sportsmen to prohibit all forms of mechanical fishing gear - purse seines, traps, etc. He fought against Initiative 77, which aimed to curb the commercial salmon industry in Washington State. Halferty died in 1960.

Business records and audit reports of various fish canneries in Seattle, Washington, and Oregon, 1923-1957; together with organizational materials minutes, reports and promotional materials of the Fisheries Educational Association's 1937 campaign against Initiative 77, concerning mechanical fishing gear.
