Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Paul Ballinger Davidson, PhD, son of Wells S. and Lucy L. Ballinger Davidson, was born August 12, 1896. He earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Montana State College in 1919 and a doctorate from Columbia University in New York City, N.Y. in 1924. In 1924 Davidson married Marie Bunnell September 5, 1925. Paul and Marie had two daughters, Jane and Esther Lee. He died January 1, 1988.
Dr. Davidson worked for Forest Products Laboratory in Madison, Wisconsin. He was an incumbent of an Industrial Research Fellowship at Mellon Institute of Industrial Research in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Davidson was a member of American Chemical Society, the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry, the Pittsburgh Chemists Club, and held several patents related to papermaking.

Also included in the collection are the accession cards from Montana State University Art Department’s Copeland Gallery, files pertaining to the history of watermarks, and papermaking screens.
