Historical Note

Started in 1944, The Rose Club was a group of community members who worked on the Lewis & Clark Memorial Rose Garden. The club grew out of a collaboration between the college's Men's Garden Club, the Portland Rose Society, The Royal Rosarians, and a group of Lewis & Clark parents know as the Jungle Fighters. They worked together to restore and maintain the campus rose garden, which was planned as a memorial to members of the Lewis & Clark community who served in World War II. During this time the garden was an Official Display Garden of the American Rose Society and won many local awards.
