- The Aloysius S. Church restaurant review video collection (1979-1983) consists of recordings of Church's "silver spoon" restaurant reviews conducted for PM Magazine Utah, broadcast on KUTV Channel 2. The series provides 1-2 minute snapshots of restaurants in Salt Lake City and throughout the state of Utah. The collection also contains footage of other non-restaurant PM Magazine features to which Church contributed. Al Church has authored restaurant reviews for KUTV and the Deseret News.

Historical Note
For four years between 1979 and 1983 Aloysius "Al" Church was employed as a freelance on-air talent and field producer for KUTV's semi-news program, PM Magazine, a syndicated production from Westinghouse Broadcasting that was aired on KUTV as a soft news feature with both national and local segments. He appeared twice a month as the local restaurant reviewer during that time period, focusing on Utah restaurants. He had total editorial freedom and worked with a photographer and sound person who assisted in both the filming and editing of the segments. PM Magazine aired from 6:30-7:00 p.m.
During that time, He also worked with PM staffers as a field producer, generating, filming, writing and editing other non-restaurant features (these ran for 5-7 minutes; the restaurant pieces were 90 seconds to 2 minutes). Some of these are included in the archival footage (though several were erased as PM was being phased out of KUTV's program line up.) Several won national and regional awards for writing, story content, and editing, including a regional Emmy nomination for a story (erased) on the Utah Artificial Heart (in which Drs. Rob Jarvick and Willem Kolf appeared). The train story won a national editing award for photographer John Krantzer. Some of the longer stories (articificial heart, rodeo cowboy) appeared on the national syndication reels in the 100 plus TV markets that aired PM.)
Content Description
The Aloysius S. Church restaurant review video collection (1979-1983) consists of recordings 1-2 minute snapshots of restaurants in Salt Lake City and throughout the state of Utah. The reviews were broadcast on KUTV Channel 2's PM Magazine Utah. The collection also contains footage of other non-restaurant PM Magazine features to which Church contributed. Stories are identififed by the name of the restaurant reviewed. All materials have been digitized and are available to view on DVD.
