Biographical Note

Founded in 1944, the CWU Alumni Association provides opportunities for the continued connection between alumni and Central Washington University. The Alumni Association manages events and activities throughout the year, including reunions, homecoming, annual fundraising, Alumni Association scholarships and Distinguished Alumni Awards, Board meetings and workshops, the Central advisor program, tennis clinics, and miscellaneous gatherings.

Content Description

The Central Washington University Alumni Association has continuously printed a newsletter from about 1944 until present day. It has at times printed monthly, once per quarter, once per season, and even once per year. The newsletter's name has changed several times. This collection includes “Alumni Newsletter” from 1944-1945, “Newsletter” from 1948-1963, “Alumni Newsletter” from 1964-1968, “Central Today” from 1969-2005, “Alumni Letter” from 1992-1995, “Central Connections” from 2005-2010, and “Central Alumni” from 2007-2010. As of 2012 “Central Connections was published biannually in print and “Central Today” was moved to an online source for CWU news.

Historical Background

Central Washington University began as the Washington State Normal School in 1891. In 1937, the school was rechristened Central Washington College of Education. In 1961, the school became Central Washington State College and, finally, in 1977, Central Washington University.
