Biographical Note

Lynn Hansen was born to Ralph and Lillian Hansen on July 5, 1958 in Provo, Utah. He received a degree in communication from De Anza Junior College in Cupertino, California, and worked in the television industry in Idaho, Alabama, and New Mexico. He was active in the underground comic scene as a critic and reviewer. Hansen died April 9, 1995, in Roswell, New Mexico.

Content Description

These underground comics, or comix (the "x" indicates "X-rated"), were collected by Lynn R. Hansen (1958-1995), who was active in the underground comix "scene" as a critic and reviewer.

These items were published circa 1963 to 1994 (with the exception of The Chapparral, published 1899 to 1978). They frequently depict graphic violence, and many are sexually explicit. Some are signed by the artist.

Some of the items in this collection contain terms that have historically been used to dismiss, discount and marginalize individuals from particular communities. MASC recognizes the harm caused by these terms. We retain the language in this finding aid to document history and preserve context.

The Lynn R. Hansen Comics Collection was donated to the Washington State University Libraries by Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hansen in 1995, following Lynn Hansen's death.
