Content Description

The Eric G. Bolen Papers concern Bolen’s professional life as a university professor and administrator. The papers reveal the operational structures and systems of the institutions for which Bolen worked. All of the major administrative functions of a university professor are documented in this collection, from student advising and research direction to departmental operations and tenure and promotion review. The collection contains material on his many committee affiliations and on reviews he conducted for other academic and applied research organizations. It contains Bolen’s doctoral research on black-bellied whistling ducks, as well as research on other issues of concern for wildlife managers. His black-bellied whistling duck research was subsequently continued by two of his graduate students, and some of their field notes are integrated into the data. The Eric G. Bolen Papers primarily document Bolen’s daily professional life.

The papers consist primarily of correspondence files that include manuscripts, notes, and reports. They also contain research data, field notes, grant proposals, project descriptions, photographs, student evaluations of teaching, and a small quantity of printed material. The majority of the material is administrative in nature. The Texas Tech University series contains financial records of the Department of Range and Wildlife Management’s close association with the Caesar Kleberg Foundation for Wildlife Conservation.
