Content Description
This collection contains materials on Grace Nixon's education certificates, personal books and maps, and materials from her travels. Journals are from her time in Asia, Central and South America, and Europe. There are also travel materials from Italy, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, and the United States. Another part of this collection is oversized materials, including maps of Idaho and a large sketchpad with anatomical drawings done with pastels.
Historical Note
Grace Virginia Nixon, born in Genesee, Idaho 6 June 1908, graduated from Clarkston High School in 1926. She then attended the University of Idaho to receive a bachelor of arts degree in 1930 before going to the University of Washington for her master's. Nixon worked as an English teacher in Spokane and Northern Idaho. The Grace V. Nixon Institute of the English Department and the Grace V. Nixon Endowment were made at the University of Idaho in her honor. Nixon married Charles J. Johnson in 1979. Nixon died 16 March 1983.
