Historical Note
Frank Henry Netter (1906-1991) was a surgeon and medical illustrator. Netter began doing medical illustration during medical school to supplement his income. His illustrations were frequently for medical and pharmaceutical companies that sought to advertise their products. Netter’s largest commission was with the CIBA Pharmaceutical Company, doing fold-up illustrations of organs and a series of pathology illustrations that became popular with physicians.
