Historical Note
Timothy McCarthy homesteaded land along the Coeur d'Alene River in 1890. His lands were below the mining operations of Bunker Hill Mining and Sullivan Mining and Coal Company. He filed a lawsuit against the companies regarding pollution to the water which had made the land unusable.
