Historical NoteReturn to Top
Whoopi Goldberg was a comedian and actress on stage, film, and television. In 1974 she joined the improvisational troupe “Spontaneous Combustion” in California. She toured with a succession of one-woman shows on Broadway, elsewhere in the United States, and in Europe. In the mid-1980s she was cast in Steven Spielberg’s “The Color Purple” and began a career in film and television.

The Whoopi Goldberg collection contains videotapes, audiotapes (cassette and reel-to-reel) and 16mm films. Many of the tapes and films contain outtakes for stage performances, including “Whoopi Wild”, “Valley Girl”, and “Whoopi and Loopy”. Identified venues are the Guthrie Theater and the Lyceum Theater.
