Historical Note
Glen A. Rebka, Jr. (1931-2015) was a professor of physics at the University of Wyoming from 1970-1997. Glen was born on September 19, 1931, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Rebka received his bachelor's degree from Harvard in 1953, followed by a master's in 1954 and a doctorate in nuclear physics in 1961. His dissertation research, conducted under advisor Robert Pound, verified a key aspect of Albert Einstein’s Theory of General Relativity. Before joining the University of Wyoming in 1970, Rebka taught physics at Yale University. At Wyoming, he served as a professor and as Head of the Department of Physics and Astronomy from 1983 to 1991. Although he officially retired in 1997, he continued teaching and served as interim department head until around 2010. In 2008, the department hosted a scientific conference in his name and later established a lecture series honoring his contributions. Glen passed away in Laramie on January 13, 2015, at 83 years old.
