Historical Note

John Kammerer Rollinson (1884-1948) left Buffalo, New York, for the west in 1903. He became a rand hand in Wyoming, working at various jobs around Cheyenne, Wyoming. In 1904 he eloped with Jessie Evarts of Detroit, who was visiting her mother in Hartville, Wyoming. In 1905 Rollinson moved to Cody, Wyoming. He was appointed a ranger in the Yellowstone Timber Reserve in 1907 and was in charge of the Sunlight Valley Ranger Station. His wife did not accompany him to the ranger station, and they were eventually divorced. From 1911-1915 Rollinson worked for the Sunlight Valley dude ranch. He then went to Altadena, California, and married Hazel Gadke in 1927. Rollinson wrote and published "Pony Trails in Wyoming," an autobiography, in 1941, and "Wyoming Cattle Trails," a history, in 1948.
