Historical Note

Washington State University was founded as the Washington Agricultural College and School of Science in 1890, and became the State College of Washington (colloquially Washington State College) in 1905. It enrolled its first students and began instruction in January of 1892.

Arrangement

This is an unprocessed collection. Any arrangement reflects either a pre-existing order from the records' creators or previous custodians, or preliminary sorting performed by staff.

The records are in three series. The majority are print file folders, running from the earliest days of the college into the 1970s. There are two smaller series of microfilm sheets which date to a few years after the print files, and include some people not in those. Each series is in alphabetical order.
